Hi all,
below is a message from a group of fundraisers for the victims of the recent crane accident @ the NUS Guild House. If you intend to donate, please approach Tong Wei @ A316. Thanks.
Dear Faculty members, Staff and Students of NUS Business School,
While just like yourself, we are relieved that no students were injured in the incident which happened in the midst of lectures and tutorials last Friday afternoon, the incident managed to stir some thoughts and emotions within some of us. The unfortunate lost of 3 lives simply goes to show the frailty of life that we so often take for granted. A few Bizaders’ are looking to kick start this small fundraising effort for the benefit of the families of the victims of the accident. On their behalf, I hope to share a bit on what sparked them into action and hope to have your support in this modest endeavor.
Amidst the school work and CCAs that students' juggle, we get so caught up with our own lives that we neglect the fact that we are extremely privileged to be receiving a first class education, while so many others might not have had the opportunity to even qualify for university, not to mention attend one. With a quality education, comes endless opportunities to make our mark, but for some of these victims, surviving and getting by is more often than not, their top most concern.
For some of you who followed the coverage on local media, you would have realized that one of the victims was just starting work that very day when he passed on. Further reports from the ground indicated that when the victim realized the crane was about to topple over, he made a last-ditch attempt to swing the horizontal boom away from the nearby “university”, thinking for the many students and personnel who might be in the midst of lessons while the victim himself was witnessing the very last few moments of his own life. The end result, with the good graces of God, the boom landed meters away from the bus stop, the very same bus stop we use every day, meters away from the very “university” that houses the many faculty offices, the MBA students’ lounge, the Bizad club room, our indispensible LT16 amongst the many halls of learning we gather every day.
"Some people think only intellect counts: knowing how to solve problems, knowing how to get by, knowing how to identify an advantage and seize it. But the functions of intellect are insufficient without courage, love, friendship, compassion and empathy." - Dean Ray Koontz (Writer & Novelist)
So today, a small band of Bizaders’ ask a small favor of you, to perhaps take stock of your time here in NUS Bschool and consider contributing a token sum to our fund. For more details on how to contribute, please visit www.cranevictimsfund.blogspot.com
Thank you so much for your time.
